National Farmers Market Week

8/5/2019

It's the first full week in August and that means it is National Farmers Market Week!  We are excited to celebrate our own Watertown Farm & Craft Market as well as the other markets across the nation.  This week is dedicated to highlighting farmers markets and the impact they have on their local communities across the United States of America.  Each year we bring dozens of talented vendors together every Wednesday, for the benefit of our small businesses, local economy, and community.

Fostering Entrepreneurship

Farmers markets across the country foster entrepreneurship, serving as incubators for small and independent businesses. For over forty years, we have served as a connection between rural and urban environments and have provided opportunity for product sales.  When food is produced, processed, distributed, and sold locally, it has a strong impact. Not only does our market foster entrepreneurship, it leads to economic development.

Stimulate Growth in Communities

Markets can stimulate economic growth in local communities.  According to the Farmers Market Coalition, Growers selling locally create more jobs than those not selling locally. Plus, locally owned retailers, such as farmers markets, return more than three times as much of their sales to the local economy compared to chain competitors!

Markets Support Healthy Communities

Farmers markets support healthy communities. Since 1977, our market has become a hub for community in the Greater Watertown region.  Each year we directly connect farmers and crafters, as well as advocates of local non-profits, to market goers.  The Watertown Farm & Craft Market contributes to the North Country by providing a social environment that brings families, friends, and professionals to downtown Watertown every week.  Food trucks, live music, art, locally made products, and fresh produce all promote a friendly community-oriented atmosphere where market goers can enjoy what downtown Watertown has to offer.

Thank you!

We are thankful for our presenting market sponsor, Watertown Savings Bank, our presenting music sponsor, MVP Health Care®, and our supporting music sponsors, Foy Benefits, ABC50, and Rockin’ It for Bill, for their generous support of our market this season.
